Mika Sasaki

Researcher

Originally from Ōtsu City, Shiga Prefecture, Mika grew up by Lake Biwa, where she developed a deep interest in the relationship between human activity, natural ecosystems, and the water cycle. This early awareness led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in environmental science at the University of Shiga Prefecture, specializing in architecture and landscape design.
She is currently completing a master’s degree in engineering at the Institute of Science Tokyo, where her research focuses on public space and community from a socio-ecological perspective. During a study exchange in Sweden, she participated in migratory bird monitoring and joined a climate strike led by Greta Thunberg—experiences that deepened her commitment to climate justice.
Her work in wetland conservation has further strengthened her resolve to protect landscapes, communities, and ecosystems vulnerable to climate change. In 2025, she joined Climate Integrate, aspiring to drive systemic change for climate change solutions and contribute to a more just and sustainable future.
