Joint Seminar: Thinking About Climate Change + Tourism in Kannabe Kogen Vol. 1

At Climate Integrate, we have been working with people in the Kannabe Kogen area (Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture) about the challenges and opportunities related to climate change and regional development.
This time, as part of our support for the region's decarbonization efforts, we will be co-hosting a seminar to deepen understanding and share knowledge about climate change, with a focus on "climate change and tourism."
Part 1 of the seminar (a web-based program) is open to anyone. Anyone interested is welcome to register.

*A recording of the webinar is available here.

Overview

In 2023, Kannabe Kogen will be marking the 100th anniversary of skiing in Kannabe .
Our tourism history began with snow, one of nature’s gifts and has continued alongside the grandeur of the highland landscape and the richness of the four seasons.
However, as a tourism whose livelihoods depend on nature, we too are increasingly affected by the impacts of climate change on the natural environment.
We believe that taking action on environmental issues, including climate change, at this moment is both our responsibility and a source of hope for the future.
As we reflect with gratitude on the past 100 years, how should we move forward?
By considering climate change and tourism together, and aiming for a "Kannabe Model" for proactively addressing the region’s challenges, we will hold a seminar featuring Kimiko Hirata and Tetsuji Ida to begin by examining the current state of climate change.
